'The Art of Racing in the Rain' is a New York Times best-selling book. When you meet people that have read this book they shake you hard and scream at you, “You must read this book!!!!” Like my good friend Patty Steele. This is one of her favorite books and it has been turned into a major motion picture, starring THIS IS US star, Milo Ventimiglia. It also stars Amanda Seyfried of Mean Girls and Mama Mia fame. The dog, Enzo, is voiced by the legend Kevin Costner.

Initially, I thought this was a “talking dog movie” where I was quickly scolded and the radio by Patty. The voice of the dog is his conscience as he goes through life with his owner, a racing car driver and his family.

I went along to the red carpet in New York City and quickly found out from the star, Milo Ventimiglia, that this movie and story is more than a dog with a Kevin Costner voice! I asked Milo how the dog in the movie balanced his intense character out. Milo replied, “He grounds him you know…..what my character gets from Enzo is that stillness, that patience, that presence”.

I went on to ask him how the dog changed his character, Denny. Milo answered, “Enzo's watching this family go through what they're going through and experience life, and he's trying to imprint his soul with the best of what this family is giving him and each other in the world so that in his next life, when he is a person, he can be the best possible human being ever.”

By this stage of the interview, I was getting emotional. This guy Milo knows how to go deep!

I then went on to talk with Amanda Seyfried where I bluntly asked her if I would become a dog lover after seeing this moving. She quickly replied, “If you're not a dog person, you're about to be.”

Would I cry in this movie? In wide-eyed shock, Amanda replied, “Very much so. I cried so hard at the table read that people, the producers were asking me if I was okay and I was like, no, it's purely the subject matter. It's breaking me open.”

I’ll let you know if it breaks me open as much as her. And if I end up buying a dog!

My kids are desperate for one.

'The Art of Racing in the Rain' is in theatres now.
