With a career spanning 50 years, John Oates was bound to make some mistakes between recording hit records and performing in front of sold out arenas as one half of Hall & Oates. With the release of his memoir — Change of Seasons — Oates details a life filled with both oversight and success.

“I don’t have anything to be ashamed of. I did what I did. I made some mistakes but, you know, I was a kid and I was a musician. I won’t be the first musician who made a lot of stupid mistakes,” Oates tell Scott Shannon. “At the same time, I think I did some good things and I had some interesting friendships and encounters along the way with people like Hunter Thompson and Andy Warhol.”
