There’s a great show on CNBC called The Deed. This show goes to the next level exploring the business side of house renovations or house flipping. The Deed is hosted by Sidney Torres, one of the most successful real estate guys in New Orleans. Each week he teams up with someone that wants to develop a property to sell. This show isn’t your normal renovation show where everyone is cheery and happy at the end like Property Brothers or Chip & Jo on Fixer Upper. While still seeing houses become beautiful and completed, this show sees Sydney gets into the rough and tumble world of strategizing to sell a fixer-upper for profit. In this show you see people nearly go broke through their stupid decisions.
I caught up with Sidney in New York City. He brought his pet dog to town! I asked him what’s the difference between his show and all other shows out there he quickly replied, “I put a million and a half into the first season, it’s my own money…. I’m funding it…. I have to protect my funds.”
Sidney is a cool, relaxed guy and comes into his show like a ninja, helping regular people become business people, seeing out their dream to become real estate developers.
On another note, before Sidney was a New Orleans millionaire, he was Lenny Kravitz’s assistant in the early 90’s. I asked him what he actually did for Lenny. Sidney laughed and said, “I was his gopher, I would go get the toothbrush… I thought I wanted to be in the music business.”
Lucky for Sidney, Lenny fired him!
