Former Late Show band leader Paul Shaffer was feeling down after his 30-plus year gig alongside David Letterman came to an end. The free time has afforded him the ability to focus on music without having to rush to the Ed Sullivan Theatre every day.

“Other records that I made, I was working hard in the studio but then, ‘Guys, I got to go. I have the Letterman show to tape,'” says Shaffer. “This time I was totally focused on this record and had nothing else to do, obviously. [I] poured my heart and soul into it and people are starting to like it. It’s very gratifying.”

Paul Shaffer & The World’s Most Dangerous Band features guest vocals from Dion, Jenny Lewis, Darius Rucker, Shaggy, and Valerie Simpson. The single “Happy Street” features Bill Murray and has an animated music video, with Shaffer adding, “Isn’t it sweet? It was one of those things that just fell together.”
