Hey guys! Joe Causi back with another ‘Week in Music history’ as we say farewell to 2016! Let’s look back on Peter Tork’s separation with The Monkees, ELVIS says “thank you very much” to the FBI, J.Lo and Sean Combs get VERY lucky and a whole lot more!

The ’60s

It would be this week in 1969, Peter Tork would say “asta la vista” to his fellow bandmates and quit The Monkees buying himself out of his contract which left him broke.

He would go on to form a group called Release and played banjo on George Harrison‘s soundtrack to the film ‘Wonderwall’.

The ’70s

Let’s head back to 1970, when the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, was given a private tour of the FBI headquarters in Washington DC.

Elvis requested and was given a permit to carry a gun in every US state.

Can anyone say WOW over this one!!!!

The ’80s

Meanwhile back this week in 1983, after having made two successful dives below a friend’s yacht to find items he’d drunkenly thrown off his own boat three years before, The Beach Boys‘ Dennis Wilson took one last dive into the Pacific and never returned from the boat moored in Marina Del Rey, California.

With the help of President Reagan he was given a burial at sea, normally reserved for Naval personnel. Dennis was the only genuine surfer in The Beach Boys.

The ’90s

Let’s go back to 1998, when every bodies favorite girl group, The Spice Girls would score their 8th UK No.1 single with ‘Goodbye’. It gave the group the Christmas No.1 for the third year in a row equaling the record set by The Beatles from 1963, 64 and 65.

Meanwhile the following year in 1999, Sean ‘Puff Daddy’ Combs and his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were arrested after a gun was found in their car as they left a Manhattan nightclub.

Police were investigating a shooting in the club.

Thank god, that didn’t happen to you and me or …..?

The 2000’s

It’s off to 2008, when my favorite Taylor Swift would start a seven-week run at No.1 on the US album charts with ‘Fearless’.

Just so you know… as of 2013, Taylor had sold over 26 million albums and 75 million digital single downloads worldwide. Forbes estimates that she is worth over $220 million. Not too shabby!

Happy New Year Everybody!
