2016 has been a difficult year for supermodel Iman. Her husband David Bowie died in early January and then within three months her mother passed away as well. She’s naturally kept out of the spotlight while she’s focused on processing those losses, but on Wednesday she made an appearance at New York Fashion Week, where she opened up about Bowie’s death.

Iman attended the Tom Ford Fashion Show, where she spoke with Good Morning America‘s Joe Zee. “It’s just been a tough year, but I’m holding up,” she said (via People).

One way she’s been able to memorialize Bowie is with a special gold necklace her friend made for her. “I’m wearing this until my death. [Fashion designer] Hedi Slimane made it for me,” she shared. “It just says ‘David.'”

Around the world, artists and cities have found ways to commemorate the artist who meant so much to them, but Iman’s gold necklace is extra special. It’s one personal way she’s found to keep Bowie close to her heart.
