Welcome back to another wild and wonderful week in classic hits music history with your pal, ‘Brooklyn’s Own’ Joe Causi! This week we’ve got stories on The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, the ‘Purple One’, Los Del Rio and the KING, Elvis Presley!

The ’60s

It happened this week in 1963, when The Beatles would play their last ever performance at The Cavern Club in Liverpool.

The Beatles, whose fee for their first performance at the Cavern had been $5.00, received a fee of $300 for their last performance.

Who would have thought????

The ’70s

It would be this week in 1973, when Stevie Wonder would release his 16th studio album, Innervisions.

Stevie would play all the instruments on six of the album’s nine tracks.

This is why he is the WonderMan!!!

The ’80s

It was this week in 1984, when the late Prince would start a 24-week run at the top of the US album charts with ‘Purple Rain’.

It would go on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide, becoming the seventh best-selling soundtrack album of all time.

The ’90s

Remember this week in 1996, when Los Del Rio would start a 14 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Macarena’?!?

The song would sell an amazing 11 million copies world-wide and be ranked the ‘No.1 Greatest One Hit Wonder of all Time’ by VH1 in 2002.

The 2000’s

Talk about amazing…. it was this week in 2008 when Elvis Presley‘s peacock jumpsuit was sold at auction for $300,000! That made it the most expensive piece of Elvis memorabilia ever sold at an auction!

The white outfit with a plunging V-neck and high collar featured a blue-and-gold peacock design, hand-embroidered on the front and back and along the pant legs.
