Although David Bowie was first and foremost a musician, it’s hard to find an area of visual art or popular culture where his influence (and loss) isn’t felt. “Fashion” is one of Bowie’s hit singles, and the fashion industry has admired and channeled his work repeatedly through the decades. In recognition of his style legacy, the CFDA will honor Bowie with the Board of Directors’ Tribute.

Actress Tilda Swinton, who is often compared to Bowie and co-starred with him in the video for “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” will accept the award on his behalf at the ceremony on June 6.
