On top of the myriad of hits the singer has graced us with in the years he was with us (not to mention the vault of unreleased material still to see the light of day), Prince was also quite well known for penning tracks for other artists.

One of those songs is the Sinead O’Connor classic, “Nothing Compares 2 U” which rocketed the Irish born singer to the top of the charts in 1990 and became the third best-selling single, certified platinum that same year.

Today at 6:07PM Eastern time, it will have been 7 hours and 13 days since the unexpected passing of Prince Rogers Nelson at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota and if that hasn’t made you well up with tears, then nothing will.

See the opening lyrics to the song below.

“It’s been seven hours and thirteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away”

The song was originally recorded by one of the “Purple One’s” side projects, The Family, but was never released as a single. Sinead made only one change to the lyrics, adjusting her mourning period from “7 hours and 13 days” to “7 hours and 15 days.” You can check out the original version below.
