What does the biggest fight of the century, Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, have in common with love song singer/writer Dan Hill?

In 1977 Dan Hill released a song named “Sometimes When We Touch.” It went to #3 on the US Billboard charts and became an international hit — not to mention a certified love ballad. To Dan’s bewilderment, the song has been reborn by superstar Filipino boxer, Manny Paquiao.

I caught up with Manny and Dan when they came through New York a few years ago. A befuddled Dan explained to me that, “Manny always sings the song after a fight and he went public saying it was his favorite song.” Dan Hill started to join Manny in the ring after fights where they would perform the song as a duet. Dan said “there is a tremendous electrifying response, especially when we hit the chorus singing together.”

When I asked Manny about his duet he said, “I am happy and excited to sing with my idol, Dan Hill.”

For the big fight in Las Vegas this Saturday night, Manny will enter the ring to the sound of his new song that he sings, “Lalaban Ako.”

C’mon Manny, win this fight so you can sing “Sometimes When We Touch” again!
