James Dolan is many things: CEO of Cablevision, the Executive Chairman of Madison Square Garden, and the owner of the Knicks and Rangers. But those are just the man’s day jobs and, admittedly with some help from his supporting cast, at night the guy just likes to jam and make music.

“It’s the one thing I do in my life where it’s directly out of me,” says Dolan, who has an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion.

Dolan wrote songs with his band, JD and the Straight Shot, covering the likes of Eliot Spitzer, Trayvon Martin, Chris Christie, and Mayor DeBlasio, believing this is music people need to not just hear, but listen to, saying, “It’s message music. Almost every song on the record has a story to it.”

The album, called Where I’ve Been, was produced by Joe Walsh of the Eagles; Dolan raised $100,000 for ALS research before the band’s show on September 18 when he played a world record 7,422 kazoos simultaneously.
