It seems as though the Stones are continuing their duo of guest stars on the “50 and Counting” Tour at their next show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on December 8th. As the Rolling Stones’ official website confirms, Mary J. Blige and Gary Clark Jr. will lend the the boys a hand at the show.
R&B/hip-hop staple Blige previously appeared at the Stones’ kickoff show in London at the O2 Arena on November 24th, sharing vocal duties on “Gimme Shelter.” Watch that performance below.
Blues guitar newcomer Gary Clark Jr. is accustomed to performing with rock’s greats, including Jagger, whom he appeared with earlier this year at the White House’s Red, White and Blues event. He previously appeared on Eric Clapton’s “Crossroads” Tour in 2010, and has been praised as a future guitar god time and time again.
In addition to former Stones members Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman, the band has asked Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), Jeff Beck, Clapton and Blige to join them at their two London shows on the “50 and Counting” Tour. Welch and Blige dueted with Jagger on “Gimme Shelter,” Beck performed on Don Nix’s “Goin’ Down” (Beck first covered on his 1972 Jeff Beck Group LP), and Clapton joined on a cover of Muddy Waters’ “Champagne And Reefer.” No word on what Gary Clark Jr. will tackle alongside the Stones at the Brooklyn show, but we can assume Mary J. Blige will appear on “Gimme Shelter” once more.
As for other Stones live developments, a pre-show for the band’s final “50 and Counting” concert will air on E! at 8 p.m. ET on December 15, live from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The special precedes the actual concert, which will air live on pay-per-view.
