This Week In Beatles History: The Cavern Club, The Release Of ‘Revolver’ and Much More!

The first week of August was an active one in [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beatles[/lastfm] history, with a significant album release, the beginning of a key residency overseas that built the band’s popularity, and so much more.

Today for Beatles Wednesday, we highlight that great album Revolver and play tracks to celebrate it’s UK release this week in history.

8/2/1961 – The Beatles began their engagement as regular headliners at Liverpool’s Cavern Club. They performed 292 shows over the next two years. 

8/3/1963 – The Beatles appeared at the Cavern Club in Liverpool for the last time after a two year run.  They received 300 pounds for the final performance.

8/4/1966 – A ban of the broadcast of any and all Beatles records on most U.S. radio stations went into effect. The ban was in response to John Lennon stating that the band was now more popular than Jesus.

8/5/1966 – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm] album Revolver was released in the U.K. and is considered by many to be their best work. 

8/3/1971 – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] announced the formation of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Wings[/lastfm], which featured his wife, Linda on keyboards. Other members included former [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Moody Blues[/lastfm] guitarist, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Denny Laine[/lastfm].

8/3/1980 – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]John Lennon[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Yoko Ono[/lastfm] began recording their album Double Fantasy.
