Let’s be honest, the biggest news of the day didn’t come from San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, it came from a house 7,000 miles away in London where soul revivalist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Amy Winehouse[/lastfm] was found dead of, at this point, unknown causes.

With that news, we headed in to talk to the cast of NBC’s Community. Who were excited to share…absolutely NOTHING about their upcoming third season! Well, it wasn’t because they didn’t want to, but more because they didn’t want to spoil anything for us which is rather nice of them. What we DO know is that this season’s writing was heavily influenced by HBO’s Baltimore based show “The Wire”… And now WE want to know how that pertains to a Community College in Colorado. Stay tuned, Thursday night’s at 8PM on NBC.

From there we headed over to chat with British star Theo James and his role in BBC America’s new six part thriller “Bedlam.” Based on an apartment building converted from an insane asylum, James’ character works to perform peaceful exorcisms on the lost soles trapped their while working through his own host of personal demons. We’re looking forward to this one which debut’s October 8th at 9PM.

[pullquote quote=”Ladies and gentlemen, an era has ended and Elvira has left the building.”]From there we wandered onto the Convention Center floor to chat with director Leon Ford about his new feature “Griff The Incredible,” starring True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten, which we saw and loved last night. Proud of his super hero fan love story, Ford is blown away by the Comic Con experience and now wishes he’d been before writing the movie!

Transversing the Gaslamp, we hoofed-it up to the U.S. Grant where we had a double-whammy pow-wow first with voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson (KMR) of The Cleveland Show, then with Avatar director James Cameron’s brother, David Cameron. KMR discussed how much he’s enjoyed working with music artists [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye West[/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Harry Connick Jr[/lastfm]. Having been a key part in developing his brother’s 3D film technology, Cameron has stepped aside from the film making business in one of the most honorable career side-steps we can think of: to promote smoking cessation, using electronic cigarettes.

Back in the Convention Center, we reconnected with one of our favorite interviews of last year’s Comic-Con, Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark. A fan and Comic-Con favorite, Elvira is here this year to promote her new “Double Feature” DVD’s from last season’s acclaimed syndicated show AND word that she’s about to start diving into Social Networking in a completely different way. We’re intrigued but not as much as we are saddened to learn that this will be her last Comic-Con in costume as Elvira. Ladies and gentlemen, an era has ended and Elvira has left the building.

As we headed back to the Bayfront Hilton for our final round of press conferences, we found actress Olivia Munn hanging out of the Hilton’s lawn chatting with a circle of fans in the afternoon sun.

Inside the hotel, we caught up with Peter Dinkledge and Ryan Kwanten about their upcoming feature “Knights Of Badassdom” which is based on the activity of… wait for it… “Larping.” Look it up and tell us you’re not dying to see this one.

Finally we ended the day in a surprisingly quiet room hidden deep within this behemoth hotel to spend a few moments with none other than Sir Patrick Stewart who was happy to talk with us about his new role in Dorothy Of Oz, an animated feature film based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great grandson of L. Frank Baum. Apparently Sir Patrick jumped at the opportunity because he’s such a massive fan of the family’s work.

And, as we exited the Hilton into the early dusk of Day Three we waded through the masses to the Hard Rock Hotel to prepare for the evening’s festivities which will culminate with The 5th annual Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con celebration…
