“Only three more songs until I kick your ass, pal.”

Those were the words Don Fedler uttered to Glenn Frey at a show in Long Beach, California in July of 1980, described by some as “Long Night at Wrong Beach.” Follow that up with a live album that had to be mixed by band members on opposite coasts due to mutual disdain and you have yourself a band that had officially called it quits.

Until hell freezes over, of course.

“When hell freezes over,” was the phrase routinely used by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Don Henley[/lastfm] whenever questioned about a possible [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eagles[/lastfm] reunion. It would also be the inspiration to the title of their 1994 tour and live album Hell Freezes Over.

Consisting of the Long Run era lineup of Don Henley, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Glenn Frey[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Joe Walsh[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Don Felder[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Timothy Schmit[/lastfm], the album would produce four new studio tracks and eleven tracks recorded live for an MTV special. It would reach #1 on the Billboard charts with “Get Over It” and “Love Will Keep Us Alive” as Top 40 singles.

Hell Freezes Over would go on to sell over six million copies and land at #37 on Billboard’s Top 200 end of decade charts.
